Veinlite Sclerotherapy

The Orlando-based surgeons at Central Florida Vein and Vascular Center offer veinlite sclerotherapy to help make the treatment of  spider veins more effective. Most patients with spider veins have feeding veins under the surface of the skin that lessens the responsiveness of ordinary spider vein Sclerotherapy. Here’s what to expect from this treatment.

What Is Veinlite Sclerotherapy Treatment?

In veinlite sclerotherapy, a professional uses a handheld device to transilluminate feeder veins that reside below the skin’s surface feeding surface spider veins. This technology highlights the feeder vessels for professionals to target first and then treat the spider veins at their root after the root cause is resolved.

Similar to other forms of sclerotherapy treatment, this procedure involves a physician injecting a sclerosing agent, a medication designed to create inflammation to the  vein being treated. This sclerosing agent can be made of concentrated saline, but at the Central Florida Vein & Vascular Center, we use the safest and most powerful sclerosing agent called sotradecol or polidocanol.  The compounds are able to be transformed into a foam state that provides superior results.  This concentrated solution causes the vein to fade away after the inflammatory reaction subsides. The vein itself is not removed, but the appearance is greatly diminished. Patients may experience stinging during the procedure, but the discomfort is minimal.

The Benefits Of Veinlite Sclerotherapy

Unlike ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, which targets deeper veins, veinlite sclerotherapy is ideal for veins closer to the skin’s surface, which allows the physician to access the veins. These feeder vessels, typically blue-green in color, can be located 4-8 mm beneath the skin surface and the injection is remote from the target spider veins. The feeding veins treated by vein lite sclerotherapy are not visible to the human eye and require the transillumination lite to visualize the feeding veins.  It’s important that the physician properly targets these feeder vessels to provide the most effective long term resolution of the spider vein.

In general, veinlite sclerotherapy is:

  • Safe: Veinlite sclerotherapy uses transillumination technology to create a wide view of the affected veins under the skin’s surface instead of radiation alternatives. A professional can also see the affected area more clearly and insert the sclerosing agent more precisely.
  • Efficient: A veinlite sclerotherapy session will only take between 15-30 minutes, so you can easily complete your treatment schedule during a lunch break. We encourage light movement after a session to keep blood flow moving to your lower legs, increasing treatment effectiveness. You will be able to go back to your regular movement and exercise within 24 hours.
  • Long-lasting: You should begin to see results within a couple of treatments, depending on the severity of your varicose veins. Fully treated veins should not come back and — because veinlite is so thorough — new varicose veins can be minor and easily treated.
