Your doctor will review with you the items you should avoid before undergoing EVLT. Common items recommended to avoid include caffeine and heavy meals. It is often recommended that you wear open-toed shoes to your appointment as well.
Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) is a great option for treating varicose veins. After the vascular surgeons at Central Florida Vein and Vascular Center have assessed your venous health or varicose veins through a diagnostic ultrasound, your next step may be endovenous laser treatment at one of our three locations: Ocoee, Kissimmee, and The Villages. This treatment has quickly become a gold standard in varicose vein treatment. Here’s what you can expect from this treatment.
During an endovenous laser therapy treatment, a specialist uses an ultrasound to locate the affected vein. A small catheter is then inserted into the vein, where heat is applied. This heat causes the vein to collapse and seal shut, effectively treating the varicose vein. The vein closure also has a positive impact on blood flow.
Patients receive local anesthesia during the procedure and doctors will numb the area. Afterward, a leg wrap or stocking is placed on the leg for one to two weeks while it heals. Patients experience minimal downtime from EVLT—they are able to walk immediately after the procedure, and typically return to work the following day.
Post-treatment, patients enjoy legs without visible, bumpy veins. Closing the affected vein helps prevent varicose veins from developing into a more serious condition, such as blood clots or venous ulcers.
Laser therapy has been proven to be successful and safe, with a success rate 0f 90-100% depending on which study you look at. Learn more about the success rate here.
Central Florida Vein & Vascular Center offers high-level medical advice, care and patient comfort. From the second you walk into our practice, we care about what is best for you. We discuss all treatment options, ranging from homeopathic treatment, to compression stockings, or possible minimally invasive procedures. We’ll explain how other hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, can be affecting your venous health. For those looking for additional knowledge before they visit our clinic, we offer ongoing educational material through our blog. Throughout every step of the process, you’ll have an understanding of your venous care and what we believe is your best option moving forward.
All of our procedures are minimally invasive—meaning you’ll find no painful vein stripping here. If the thought of treatment recovery time or costs is keeping you away from the vein care you deserve, don’t worry. Vein care is more affordable than you might think. Most insurance companies cover an initial consultation, so you can gain a full understanding of your current venous health. You’ll be happy to hear that treatment itself is sometimes covered by insurance as well.
Your doctor will review with you the items you should avoid before undergoing EVLT. Common items recommended to avoid include caffeine and heavy meals. It is often recommended that you wear open-toed shoes to your appointment as well.
For the first 48 hours after treatment you will want to continue to wear your compression bandage. After those 48 hours, you will continue to wear compression socks during the day for one week.
